QER 1922 Farmer at Mary River Road, Cooroy. Lewis was born in Lynstone, Devonshire, England and was aged 27 years and a Farmhand when he enlisted at Brisbane on 30th December, 1914. He had previously had 4 years experience with 1st Devon Yeomanry. He named his Mother Mrs E. Arscott of Coophages Farm, Uppotery, Hamilton, Devon as his next of kin. He embarked from Brisbane to join the B E F in France on 2nd June 1915 Ex "Medic". On 4th September, 1915 he embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Forces in Gallipoli. He was admitted to the St Andrews Hospital, Malta with Dysentery on 24th October, 1915. and was later transferred to the County of London Hospital, Epsom on 27th November. He was transported Ex "Kildonan Castle" (?Spelling). On 13th April 1916 he rejoined his unit in France (25th Battalion). He was again admitted to hospital in France on 6th July, 1917 with V.D. He was hospitalised at the 39 General Hospital at Harve on 6th August 1917 and after discharge was returned to Base Depot in England, He rejoined his unit from England on 24th August, 1917. He was appointed Driver in France on 1st April, 1918. at 2nd A D M T Coy. He returned to Australia Ex "{Port Denison" from Davenport on 17th November, 1919 and disembarked in Sydney. He was discharged on 10th February, 1920 in Brisbane. He was granted 3 months leave from 31st May 1919 to 31st August 1919 to attend a Sheep Raising Farm - with E.J. Arscott, Eastcott Farm, Umberleigh, Devon, England. There is a letter on file dated 11th July, 1967, address then being Cooroy, N.C. Line, Qld. requesting his Gallipoli Medals.
