Donald James Stephen Bain. WEDDING BAIN-SYMONDS - On Saturday, June 1, a very pretty wedding of widespread interest to Central and Southern Queenslander was celebrated at the Campbell Street Methodist Church, when Ayrene Maud, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs G. B. I. Symonds, West Street, Rockhampton, was married to Donald James Stephen, (ex RAAF), eldest son of Mr J. Donald Bain and the late Mrs Bain, of Sunnyside, The Summit, Via Stanthorpe. The Rev. R. S. C. Dingle officiated. The church was attractively decorated by relatives and friends of the bride and bridegroom with bowls of white and yellow flowers. A large wedding bell was suspended from an arch over the bridal couple. The bride entered the church with her father to the strains of the Wedding March. The service opened with the congregation singing two verses of the hymn, "The Voice that Breathed O'er Eden", the bride looked charming in her gown, of magnolia mouri pouit made in the Old World Style, featuring a full skirt with a slight train and three-quarter sleeves. The sleeves, bodice and skirt were handsomely embroidered with moss stitch in floss silk and silver thread. For "something old ' the bride wore a gold watch which has been in the bridegroom's family for over four generations, and for "something borrowed" a dainty silver vinaigrette. She earned a dainty cascade trail of white dahlias, stephanotis, eucharis lilies and narcissus, finished with white satin ribbons. The bridesmaids, Misses Betty Symonds and Grace Smith, wore dainty picture frocks of floral Swiss organdi over blue taffeta made in an Old World style with puff sleeves, long bodices and very full skirts. The skirts featured centre panels with frills outlined with gold plaiting and tiny bows. Their Bo-Peep hats of matching blue were made of crinkled silk straw finished with veiling and flowers, they carried shower bouquets of buttercup cactus, chrysanthemums, dahlias, and rosebuds tied with matching ribbon. The bridegroom was attended by his brothers, Mr Spencer Bain and Mr Alex Bain as groomsman. During the signing of the register Mr George Hooper gave a delightful rendition of “Angels Guard Thee" As the bride left the church a silver horseshoe was placed on her arm for good luck. The reception was held at the QCWA rooms, where the guests were received by the bride's mother, who was gowned in dewdrop blue bramble crepe trimmed with pearl sequins and silver beads. Navy accessories were added. She was assisted by Miss Joan Bain, who wore a frock of powder blue sand crepe with navy accessories. The tables were tastefully decorated by members of the QCWA, with bowls of red roses and a vase of white flowers and maidenhair fern brought from the bride's future home at Stanthorpe. Pride of place was given to a beautifully decorated three-tiered cake made by the bride's mother. When leaving for the honeymoon, to be spent at Scarness and other South Coast beaches, the bride wore a model jacket suit of nigger brown trimmed with coffee lace. She added nigger brown accessories.
