Harold`s parents were Charles Adrian Badham and Margaret Laura Green - who were married in Vepery, Madras India in 1867. They had 3 other sons - Charles Stanley, Herbert Lewis, and Sydney Thomas, who were all born in India. All four brothers came to Australia.

In 1891 Harold arrived in Sydney from London on the ship Neotsfield, as a "boy" crew member. He arrived many times in Australia on different ships, as a 3rd Mate, and an Able Bodied Seaman.

By 1909 he had settled in Australia as a farmer in Meridan, Queensland.

Harold married Clara Maud Nunn at St. Andrew`s Brisbane on 11 July 1921, the celebrant was the Bishop of New Guinea, where Harold had been on his naval voyages.
