Thomas was the son of John and Ann Barrons of England. He was born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England on April 16 1887 and baptised on May 29 1887. His father John was born in 1849 and died in 1921 and his mother Ann (Priestley) was born in 1849 and passed away in 1931..

In 1891 England census shows he was living in Northumberland and had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. They were Edward (20), John (17), Elizah (14) Anne (12), James (10); William (7), Thomas was 3 at this time and baby Frances 1 day old on census day.

In 1901, the English census shows only William (17), Thomas (now 13) and Frances now 9 were still living in the family home. All the children were listed as gardeners. and John (his Father) as a Park Keeper.

Thomas was a Police constable prior to his enlistment and he was already married to Agnes and living in Calgary, Alberta, Alaska

in 1916, Aged 29 years Thomas enlisted in the 191 Canadian Expeditionary Force

The Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) was the field force created by Canada for service overseas in the First World War. The force was so respected and had such combat efficiency that the Germans nicknamed them Stormtroopers. The mostly volunteer force became so revered by the Allied commanders that the Canadians were ordered to spearhead the last campaigns of the War.

He was described as 5ft 10 inches with a dark complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.

He was of the Presbyterian faith

In 1917 - April 13th he was medically discharged as unfit, in Calgary due to flat feet, marked, varicoele prominent,

interestingly his discharge papers refer to his previous occupation as' Gardner'.

In 1919 Australian Census shows Thomas and Agnes living in Caboolture and he is listed as a Farrier

In 1925 Australian Census Thomas alone is listed as now living in Coochin Creek, Beerwah

It is known that Thomas was allotted Block 316 of the Beerburrum soldiers settelement
