Thomas Wilfred Wooton was born on 7th December 1888 at Traveston one of six children to parents Abraham and Sarah Ann (nee Benton). He was a single man who stood 5ft 10 inches tall, weighed 180 Lbs with fair complexion, hazel eyes and light brown hair. Fred worked as a laborer before enlisting at the age of 26 years on 30th November 1915. The following day he was assigned as Private and went into 'C' company Number 9 depot battalion at Enoggera. He was transferred to 'A' section Filed Artillery and became a Gunner on 6th January 1916. Fred never went to war as he died a day after 'wrongfully attempting to cross the railway line' at Brisbane Central Station on 16th March 1916. He had been struck by a train after falling on to the line. He had been transported to Brisbane General Hospital but never recovered and died on 17th March 1916. Fred was buried at Toowong Cemetery in location 10-11-21. He was not eligible for service medals.
