Born Landsborough. Attended Landsborough State School and North Brisbane. Civil offence recorded - Riding a bicycle at night without a lamp. Former service #931 Trooper/No. 3 Troop 2nd Squadron 13th A.L.H. for 2 years 2 months (15th December 1914) Promoted 2nd Lieutenant 12th October 1915. Hospitalised with bronchitis for 19 days in Egypt. Developed sand colic June 1916d during training at Tel-El-Kebir; Transferred from the Light Horse to Artillery for England August 1916; From 11/12/15 to 8/1/16 hospitalised at Tidworth Hospital, England with bronchitis and pleurisy. Completed Artiller Course held at SHOEBURYNESS 23/5/18 with suitability for Artillery Officer; 4/11/17 marched from England to ROUELLES; 15/4/18 taken on strength of 9th Battalion from 1st Australian Division Artillery; 20th July 1918 Wounded in action, France admitted 5th British Red Cross Hospital 21/7/1918 with severe contusion knee wound.
On leave 25/8/1919. Departed Liverpool per 'SS CELTIC' for America for instruction in agriculture and pig raising methods. Employed as one of the Australian Irrigation Students at Sacramento, returned to Aust. from San Fransisco 20/7/1920 per 'SS SOMONA' to Brisbane 12/8/1920 admitted to hospital.
