Ernest is On AIF site twice as Wrigley and Wrighley.
He was born in Manchester, England and was aged 34 years 7 months on enlistment at Warwick Farm, N.S.W. on 21 August 1915 and was listed as a "Traveller". His next of kin was named - Friend, Ella Smith (later Wrigley) so they obviously later married. Her address was then Marrickville, N.S.W. Ernest married as Arnold E Wrigley in 1915 at Petersham NSW. He married his friend, Ella I Smith. We guess that Ernest enlisted because he states he is single on his Attestation Form. He then married Ella before he sailed off to work o 14 October 1915. His son Francis was born in 1916 which explains the hasty marriage. He had previously served R.A.M.C. but that had expired. However he served in the South African War for 5 years and his rank was Private. He embarked in Sydney for Suez Ex "Port Lincoln" on 14th October, 1915 arriving in Suez on 17th November, 1915. He was only in Suez for a short while as he returned to Australia Ex "Suffolk" from Suez embarked 29th January, 1916 and disembarked Melbourne 3rd March, 1916. (Messing Duties). 25th March 1916 proceeded for day to day on H.T. invalided to Aust. He was discharged on 28th April, 1916 at wife's request (Service duration 4 months) - See comments below!
