The Chronicle of 11 June 1915, p5 states Gunner Eagle was wounded. He was nephew of Mrs J Bicheno, now resident at Nambour, and he formerly resided with her and her son at Woombye.

Horace listed his occupation as Coachsmith. He was single and of the Methodist religion.

Horace was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal on 1st January 1918. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty and consistent good work. He has rendered valuable service, particularly in two important engagements, and has always set a splendid example of coolness and determination. He frequently attended to wounded under heavy shell fire' Source: Commonwealth Gazette No.137 30th August 1918.
