Ernest Abel was allotted Lot No.393 on the Beerburrum Survey Map. He was born at Bilston, England on 5th November, 1881 and was aged 36 years 6 months when he enlisted at Toowoomba on 13th May, 1918. Ernest was married in Walsall, England on 1st August, 1906. Incidentally Walsall is where my own ancestors hailed from. Ernest and his wife, Beatrice Jane, then living at Woody Camp Farm, Clifton, Qld. had five children the oldest only 10 years old when he enlisted - The children were Beatrice born 15th March,, 1908 - Ernest born 9th August, 1909, Edward John born 10th November, 1910, Alfred Ronald born 17th November, 1915 and Horace Arthur born 22nd April, 1918. His previous experience was with The Imperial Army 21st Lancers - his time expired. He attended N.C.O. School from August to October 1918. Ernest never had to experience the horrors of France, Egypt or Belgium like so many of our brave boys did as the war ended before he could have been sent overseas so this is where his story, as far as the war is concerned, ended. He was discharged "due to termination of the war" on 1st December, 1918 at Enoggera, Brisbane..
