William Carey WYLIE, Private, 5th Light Horse Regiment, 6th Reinforcement. He was born in Ilkley, near Brisbane on 7th March 1889. The son of James Malcolm and Isabella Wylie and brother of Wallace Frederick Wylie.

He enlisted on 11th January 1915 in Innisfail and embarked from Brisbane on board HMAT A63 Karoola on 12th June 1915. He landed in England. William was shot in the right arm during a Turkish attack at Wilson's Lookout, Gallipoli on the 5th November 1915. He was then transferred to the 52 Battalion, 13th Field Artillery Brigade in March 1916 as a driver. He was transferred to the 25th FA Brigade in July 1916.

He suffered shell gas poisoning near Le Cateau. On 2nd February 1919 he died of pneumonia in Monte Video Hospital, Weymouth, England aged 28. He was buried with full military honours at Melcombe Regis Cemetery, Dorset. He was issued with the 1914/15 Star British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
